Rattlers come up short in a 24-21 loss to Mississippi Valley State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida A&M fell in a close, 24-21 loss Mississippi Valley State at home Saturday afternoon.

The Delta Devils improved to 1-10 on the year and 1-6 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play, while the Rattlers fell to 5-5 overall and 3-3 in conference matchups.

Daniel Richardson led Florida A&M's passing attack with 259 yards through the air, tossing one touchdown without throwing an interception.

Levontai Summersett totaled 87 yards to lead the Rattlers' ground attack and added one touchdown in the game, picking up 21.8 yards per carry along the way. Thad Franklin Jr. also tacked on 77 yards on the ground, picking up 12.8 yards per carry.

Jamari Gassett reeled in three catches for 83 yards and one score. Goldie Lawrence got in on the action in the passing game as well, hauling in two balls for 52 yards.

How It Happened

Florida A&M grabbed a 7-0 lead over Mississippi Valley State after scoring the game's first points on the opening drive of the game.Mississippi Valley State then tied things at 7-7 before the Rattlers responded with a 45-yard field goal from to jump back ahead 10-7.

Mississippi Valley State fought back to take a 24-10 lead before Florida A&M put a field goal on the board to close the gap with 9:16 left in the third quarter and make it a 24-13 game.The Rattlers then scored again, narrowing the gap to 24-21. Neither team scored again in the game.

» Florida A&M had their highest scoring quarter in the fourth period, when they put up eight points.
