Rattlers Fall to Maryland 84-53 in Road Test

COLLEGE PARK, Md. –– The Florida A&M men's basketball team struggled to find their rhythm against Maryland, falling 84-53 at the XFINITY Center Monday night. The loss drops the Rattlers to 0-3 on the season.

The Terrapins jumped out early, starting the game on a 15-0 run before FAMU's Ja'Derryus Eatmon got the Rattlers on the board with a layup at the 16:41 mark. Despite some bright moments, including a 6-0 run midway through the first half, FAMU trailed 40-21 at halftime.

Tyler Shirley led the Rattlers with 10 points and seven rebounds, while Shaqir O'Neal and Milton Matthews each contributed 9 points. The Rattlers showed moments of offensive efficiency, shooting 39.2% from the field, but struggled from three-point range (28.6%), particularly from the free throw line, converting just 7 of 17 attempts (41.2%).

Turnovers proved costly for FAMU, as they committed 22 miscues, which led to 31 Maryland points. The Terrapins dominated inside, outscoring the Rattlers 44-26 in the paint.

The Rattlers improved offensive execution in the second half, scoring 32 points compared to 21 in the first half. However, Maryland's Julian Reese (21 points, nine rebounds) and Selton Miguel (14 points) helped keep the Terrapins comfortably ahead.

The Rattlers will travel to Gainesville to play the Gators on Tuesday, November 19.
