Rattlers return home with back to back SWAC matchups against Southern and Grambling State

Tallahassee, FL - Florida A&M women's basketball will return home after a month on the road to host back-to-back SWAC games against Southern University and Grambling State. The Rattlers are coming off an 80-76 loss to rival Bethune-Cookman in the SWAC opener. 


Who: Florida A&M (1-11, 0-1 SWAC) vs Southern (4-9, 2-0 SWAC), Grambling State (7-6, 1-1)

When: Saturday, January 13 at 2:00 p.m. & Monday, January 15 at 5:30 p.m.

Where: Al Lawson Center

Non-conference Recap

The Rattlers have been tested early this Season with a tough non-conference slate. The Rattlers opened up the Season on the road against the University of Tennessee, losing to the Lady Vols 93-64. The Rattlers stayed in Tennessee for their matchup against Middle Tennessee, where they suffered a 93-48 loss. 

The Rattlers returned to the Sunshine State for their matchup against Florida. The Rattlers would fall to the Gators 92-54. The Rattlers picked up their first win of the Season against Jacksonville. 

The Rattlers then traveled to Texas to take on Sam Houston - FAMU fell to the Bearkats 65-62. The Rattlers then wrapped up the road trip at the University of Houston, where they lost to the Courgars 79-59. The Rattlers returned home for a matchup against South Alabama, falling to the Panthers 68-65. The Rattlers then traveled to Michigan, dropping matchups to Detriot Mercy and the University of Michigan. The Rattlers wrapped up the non-conference slate at North Florida, falling to the Ospreys 76-71.

Scouting the Jaguars

Southern (4-9) is 4th in the SWAC with a 2-0 conference record. The Jaguars are coming off an 84-56 win to Prairie View. The Jaguars went 29-of-63 shooting from the field (46.0 percent) and 5-of-14 from 3PT (41.7 percent). SU was led by Genovea Johnson (4-8 FG, 10-12 FT) finished the day with 18 points, five rebounds, and two steals.


Scouting the Tigers

Grambling State (7-6) is 6th in the SWAC with a 1-1 conference record. The Tigers are coming off a 72-67 loss to Texas Southern. The Tigers finished 24-82, 29.3% in field goals. Kahia Warmsley led with 17 points and ten rebounds. GSU shot 88.9% (16 of the 18) from the free-throw line.

Grambling State will face Bethune-Cookman on Saturday ahead of Monday's matchup with the Rattlers.
