Rattlers Set to Compete in Final Tournament Before SWAC Play

The Buccaneer Invitational hosted by the Charleston Southern begins Friday.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | The Florida A&M volleyball team has one final tune-up before its Southwestern Athletic Conference opening. The Buccaneer Invitational hosted by the Charleston Southern is scheduled to start Friday.

Friday, Sept. 15
vs. The Citadel | 10 a.m.
vs. Charleston Southern | 7 p.m. 

Saturday, Sept. 16
vs. South Carolina State | 10 a.m.

The Last Outing
FAMU (2-7) played host to its first tournament (Sept. 7-10) – the Florida A&M Invitational presented by Sonny's BBQ – where it picked up its first home win in a 3-2 decision over South Alabama. Tournament action also captured 3-0 losses to Stetson and Georgia Tech.

Tournament Highlights 
  • The Rattlers handed South Alabama its first loss of the season 
  • Brooke Lynn Watts recorded double-digit kills in two of the three matches, highlighted by a double-double against USA (a team-high 22 kills with 16 digs)
  • Freshman Shelby Chamblin notched a career-high 13 kills with three service aces and four digs versus Stetson; she finished the match with a team-high 16 points
  • Camila De La Rosa recorded 30-plus assists in back-to-back matches; the 38 versus South Alabama is fifth most in the SWAC this season, while the 31 versus Stetson is the most recorded in a three-set match
  • Brooke Hudson posted 26 digs versus USA (the third most in the SWAC this season) and 24 versus Stetson (the most recorded in a three-set match)

Individually, Brooke Hudson guides the SWAC and sits 12th in the nation in digs per set (5.30). The Preseason Libero of the Year also ranks ninth in the NCAA in total digs (196). Brooke Lynn Watts, the Preseason Player of the Year, paces the conference in three categories: kills per set (3.41), attacks per set (9.70), and total attacks (359 / 44th in the NCAA).
