Sebastian Greico ties home run record in losing effort, Rattlers to play Prairie View Friday morning

ATLANTA, Ga. --The Florida A&M Rattlers took an 8-4 lead into the ninth inning, but could not hold on and fell 9-8 to the Alabama State Hornets Thursday.

Senior Zach Morea (4-3) came out of the bullpen for Florida A&M (25-28) and took the loss.

At the plate, the Rattlers were led by junior Sebastian Greico, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a home run and four RBI. Sophomore Will Brown compiled a standout performance as well, going 3-for-5 with a triple and two RBI. Senior Jared Weber also contributed for Florida A&M, putting together three hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double, a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 2-0, the Rattlers first put runs on the board in the second inning. Florida A&M scratched across a run off freshman Ricardo Rivera when Brown tripled in freshman Joseph Pierini.

The Rattlers kept the deficit at 2-1 before tying the score in the third. Junior Ty Jackson came across to score the lone run of the inning for Florida A&M, which brought the score level at 2-2.

That 2-2 tie turned into a 5-2 Florida A&M lead in the fifth. The Rattlers put together a three-run frame, culminating in a run-scoring single from Brown.

The Hornets gained ground, closing the gap to 5-3 until Florida A&M added some insurance in the eighth. The three-run fram for the Rattlers was puncuated by a two-run homer from Greico. bringing the Florida A&M advantage to 8-3. The Rattlers were unable to hold the lead, as Alabama State scored six times over the remaining one inning to grab the 9-8 win.
