Florida A&M loses 11-6 to Bethune-Cookman despite late lead

TALLAHASSEE, FL --The Florida A&M Rattlers took a 4-3 lead into the seventh inning, but could not hang on and fell 11-6 to the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats Saturday.

Senior Zach Morea (3-2) came out of the bullpen for Florida A&M (22-25, ) and took the loss.

Offensively, the Rattlers were paced by senior Jared Weber, who went 1-for-5 on the day with a home run and two RBI. Sophomore Jalen Niles put together a standout effort as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Freshman Joseph Pierini also helped out for Florida A&M, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding two doubles and a walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 2-0, the Rattlers first put runs on the board in the third inning. Florida A&M plated two runs when Weber left the yard with Pierini aboard.

The Wildcats broke the tie and re-took the lead heading into the sixth inning, when the Rattlers got back on the scoreboard. Florida A&M picked up two runs in the frame, the big hit being an RBI double from Niles, which brought the Rattlers lead to 4-3.

Florida A&M's lead had evaporated by the time the eighth inning arrived and turned into a 9-4 Bethune-Cookman advantage, when the Rattlers cut that deficit to 9-6. The Rattlers scored twice, with one run coming across on Niles' single. The Rattlers were unable to get any closer, as Bethune-Cookman added two runs to their tally on the way to an 11-6 final.
