DAYTONA BEACH, FL --The Florida A&M Rattlers put together a valiant effort on Sunday, but ultimately came up short, losing to the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats by the score of 6-3.
Junior Tre Simmons (1-3) started and took the loss on the mound for Florida A&M (13-15, 7-2).
Junior Joseph Pierini led the way offensively for the Rattlers, going 2-for-5 in the ballgame with a home run and an RBI. Junior Ty Jackson furnished a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 2-for-5 with a double. Sophomore Jalen Niles also chipped in, going 1-for-4 for Florida A&M with a double and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, the Rattlers first put runs on the board in the second inning. Florida A&M got on the board thanks to Niles' RBI double with two outs.
The Rattlers deficit grew to 4-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the third inning. Florida A&M scored once on an RBI single off the bat of junior Sebastian Greico, which tightened the Wildcats lead to 4-2.
Florida A&M kept the Wildcats off the scoreboard before narrowing the gap to 4-3 in the fifth. The Rattlers scored a run on Pierini's leadoff home run off junior Daniel Gaviria. The Rattlers were unable to get any closer, as Bethune-Cookman added two runs to their tally on the way to a 6-3 final.
