Bastardo hits 3 homers in Florida A&M's 16-8 victory over Alabama A&M

TALLAHASSEE, FL --Senior Janmikell Bastardo put together a stellar performance at the plate Sunday, hitting three homers to help power the Florida A&M Rattlers past the Alabama A&M Bulldogs 16-8.

Junior Tre Simmons (2-2) started on the mound and picked up the win for Florida A&M (12-12, ). The southpaw went two innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on three hits, allowing four walks and striking out five. Senior Zach Morea also made an impact on the mound for the Rattlers, throwing three shutout innings while allowing one hit, with no walks and two strikeouts.

Bastardo went 3-for-3 at the plate, supplementing his three home runs with five RBIs. Senior Jared Weber added to Bastardo's awesome power-hitting performance by going 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI. Junior Ty Jackson also chipped in for the Rattlers, going 3-for-3 with a home run, a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Rattlers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Florida A&M hit two home runs in the inning on the way to scoring four runs.

The Rattlers then held the Bulldogs scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Florida A&M hit two home runs in the inning on the way to pushing four runs aross. which brought the Rattlers lead to 8-0.

Alabama A&M narrowed Florida A&M's lead to 8-2 before the Rattlers stretched the advantage to 11-2 in the fourth inning. The Rattlers scored three times, with a showing that included back-to-back homers from Bastardo and junior Joseph Pierini.

Florida A&M kept the Bulldogs without a run before their offense got things moving the next inning. The Rattlers scored twice on Weber's two-run homer, bringing the score to 13-2 in favor of Florida A&M.

Alabama A&M got within 13-8 until the Rattlers scored again in the eighth inning to stretch its lead to 16-8. Florida A&M scored three runs on a single from sophomore Will Brown. The score remained 16-8 for the rest of the game, as the Rattlers coasted to the win.
