Rattlers sweep weekend, remain undefeated, and take over first place in SWAC

MONTGOMERY, Ala. –– Florida A&M tennis traveled to Montgomery, Alabama, with an undefeated record in the SWAC and returned to Tallahassee undefeated, picking up wins versus undefeated Alabama A&M and undefeated Jackson State.
 
Match One - FAMU (4), AAMU (1)
 
The Rattlers took the doubles point as Veronica Rodriguez and Susan Salimas won 6-2, and Genesis Whitelock and Reagan Harris won 6-4.
 
The Rattlers went on to win three of four singles as Sara Rakim (6-2, 6-3), Reagan Harris (5-7, 6-3, 6-2), and Susan Salinas (6-2, 6-3) won their singles to give the Rattlers their fourth SWAC win of the season. The Rattlers gave the Bulldogs their first conference loss of the season.
 
Match Two - FAMU (4), JSU (3)
 
The Rattlers got to another hot start this weekend as Rodriguez and Salinas won 6-3, and Whitelock and Harris won 6-3 to take the doubles point versus the Tigers.
 
The singles play came down to the end as the Rattlers and Tigers split. The Rattlers got wins from Sierra Sandy (6-2, 6-4), Genesis Whitelock (6-2, 6-3), and Susan Salinas (6-3, 7-6) clinched the win. The Rattlers knocked off Jackson State from being undefeated and took over first place at 5-0.
 
Match Three - FAMU vs. PVAMU (Postponed)
 
The final match of the weekend was postponed due to the weather.
 
The Rattlers are currently in first place with a 5-0 record and are the SWAC's only undefeated team. Rattlers will return to Montgomery this weekend for a match versus Alabama State on Sunday, Mar. 19, at 11 a.m. Eastern.
