TALLAHASSEE, Fla. --The Florida A&M men's basketball team held Alcorn State to just 6.7 percent from deep in a 1-for-15 shooting performance, but fell 67-64 to the Braves at home Monday.
The Rattlers (5-19, 3-10) had four players score in double figures, led by Jaylen Bates, who had 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Hantz Louis-Jeune tacked on 13 points and seven rebounds and Byron Smith chipped in as well with 11 points off of the bench.
Florida A&M shared the ball well in Monday's game, racking up 15 assists on 21 made field goals. Individually, Noah Meren led the way for the Rattlers with four assists.
How It Happened
After jumping out to an 11-8 advantage, Florida A&M went on a 5-0 run with 14:01 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Jordan Chatman, to increase its lead to 16-8. The Rattlers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 33-28 advantage. Florida A&M relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down five shots to account for 15 of its 33 points.
Alcorn State proceeded to take a 48-42 lead before Florida A&M went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Bates' three, to seize a 49-48 lead with 9:47 to go in the contest. Alcorn State re-asserted control, outscoring the Rattlers 19-15 the rest of the way to hand Florida A&M the 67-64 loss. Florida A&M shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting five shots from deep to score 15 of its 31 points.
