KNOXVILLE, TN --The Florida A&M women's basketball team hit 9-of-19 attempts from three-point range, shooting 47.4 percent from deep in a 93-64 loss to the Tennessee Volunteers on the road Tuesday.
The Rattlers (0-1) had three players score in double figures, led by Ahriahna Grizzle, who had 16 points and six assists. Hailee Brennen tacked on 13 points and Ivet Subirats helped out with 12 points.
The Florida A&M offense was very productive from downtown, pouring in nine threes on 19 attempts. Brennen was the most prolific shooter for the Rattlers, draining three treys in the contest.
How It Happened
After falling behind 5-3, Florida A&M went on a 7-0 run with 7:48 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Olivia Delancy, to take a 10-5 lead. The Rattlers then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 26-19.
The Rattlers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 46-30 halftime deficit.
Florida A&M's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Rattlers faced a 75-47 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Florida A&M knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 17 total points.
Florida A&M kept the Volunteers from increasing their lead before going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Brennen's three, to shrink the deficit to 78-55 with 7:16 to go in the contest. Tennessee responded and outscored the Rattlers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 93-64. Florida A&M fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 17 points.
