Knoxville, TN - Florida A&M women's basketball will tip off their 2023-24 season tomorrow against the Lady Vols of the University of Tennessee. The season opener will be a homecoming for new Rattlers head coach Bridgette Gordon, as she attended the University of Tennessee from 1985-89, where she played under the late great Pat Summitt.

Match up history
The Rattlers and Lady Vols have only met twice, with Tennessee winning both match-ups. Tennessee won the first meeting 96-59 on March 16, 1995. The teams would meet again 23 years later, with Tennessee winning 96-31 on November 18, 2018.

Preseason SWAC Awards and Ranking
Ahriahna Grizzle enters her second season with the Rattlers and begins the season on the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Preseason All-SWAC Second Team. Grizzle is the Rattlers returning leading scorer after averaging 10.9 PPG in 2022-23. Grizzle also led the Rattlers in assists (3.7 APG), steals (2.3 SPG), and free throw percentage (82.4%). Grizzle scored a career-high 31 points versus Alabama State and had 10+ points in 11 games. Grizzle was also impactful on the defensive side of the ball, recording 2+ steals in 16 games, including a career-high seven steals versus UAPB. Grizzle always kept her teammates involved, recording four+ assists in 15 games, including a career-high eight versus Alcorn and Alabama A&M. Grizzle also averaged 3.6 rebounds per game and recorded nine blocks.
