FAMU Volleyball Preps for Final Regular Season Road Trip

FAMU will face Mississippi Valley State and Jackson State on the road this weekend.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | The Florida A&M volleyball team has one final regular season road swing on its 2023 schedule (Nov. 4-5) with a trip to Mississippi. There, the Rattlers will take on Mississippi Valley State and Jackson State.

The Last Outing
Florida A&M went 3-0 in the second round of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Cluster, with three consecutive, straight-set victories over Alcorn State (25-11, 25-9, 25-18), Arkansas Pine-Bluff (25-21, 25-20, 25-14), and Grambling State (25-20, 25-20, 25-17). 
 
Brooke Lynn Watts paced the Rattler offense in all three matches; she recorded a match-high 19 kills, backed by a .455 hitting percentage versus Alcorn, before posting back-to-back double-doubles versus APBU and Grambling
• Watts' effort against Alcorn also sits atop the SWAC's 2023 performance list for most kills recorded in a three-set match
•  Brooke Hudson totaled double-digit digs in all three matches, including 19 versus ASU and APBU; the 22 digs recorded versus Grambling ranks second most in the SWAC in a three-set match this season
 
Season Highlights … So Far
Brooke Lynn Watts has recorded a team-high 10 double-doubles this season; she amassed her 1,000th career kill in the Rattlers' 3-1 win over Jackson State (Oct. 1) 
Brooke Hudson possesses 1,431 career digs, 1,083 were recorded in a FAMU uniform; she currently ranks seventh all-time in Rattler history in career digs
• Hudson also holds two single-season records – a year ago, she became the school's single-season leader in digs (553), and the 530 logged this season is the second most    
Camila De La Rosa amassed her 1,000th career assist in the Jackson State victory (Oct. 1)

The 2023 SWAC Championships will be hosted by Prairie View A&M (Nov. 17-19). The "Top 8" seeds will qualify for tournament play.

FAMU currently leads the Southwestern Athletic Conference in the following categories:

The Rattlers rank second in the conference in assists per set (10.99), team total attacks (3,374), team total blocks (164.5) and team digs (1,506), with the latter category also ranking 28th in the country. 
 
Individually, Brooke Hudson guides the SWAC and sits 13th in the nation in digs per set (5.20). The Preseason Libero of the Year also ranks fourth in the NCAA in total digs (530). Brooke Lynn Watts, the Preseason Player of the Year, paces the conference in kills per set (3.59) and points per set (4.03).
 
SWAC Weekly Honors (2023) 
Camila De La Rosa was recently named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday (Oct. 24). The award marked her fourth this season and the ninth consecutive week that Florida A&M received SWAC recognition.
