Florida A&M loses to Jackson State 72-51

JACKSON, MS --The Florida A&M women's basketball team kept Jackson State to just 20 percent from 3-point range in a 3-for-15 shooting performance, but fell 72-51 to the Lady Tigers on the road Monday.

The Rattlers (3-15, 1-6) had four players score in double figures, led by Dylan Horton, who had 12 points and two steals. Ivet Subirats tacked on 12 points and three steals and Ahriahna Grizzle helped out with 12 points and four assists.

Florida A&M's defense held Jackson State to only 20 percent shooting from beyond the arc and 40 percent from the field.

How It Happened

Florida A&M struggled out of the gate, falling behind 19-9 at the end of the first quarter.

The Rattlers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 38-18 halftime deficit.

Florida A&M came out of halftime on fire, going on an 8-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Grizzle, to trim its deficit to 38-26 with 7:58 to go in the third. Jackson State countered and stretched its lead to 53-34 heading into the fourth. Florida A&M took advantage of four Jackson State turnovers in the quarter, scoring five points off of takeaways.

Jackson State kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 67-41 advantage before Florida A&M went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Subirats' three, to shrink the deficit to 67-46 with 1:12 to go in the contest. The Rattlers were unable to cut further into the deficit by the end of the game, losing 72-51. Florida A&M fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 17 points.
