Stevens’ career-high 24 points leads Florida A&M over Mississippi Valley State 60-59

TALLAHASSEE, FL --Jordan Tillmon nailed a dagger shot with 1:00 left in the game to put Florida A&M up 60-52, and the Rattlers secured a 60-59 victory against the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils at home Monday.

The Rattlers (3-13, 1-4) had three players score in double figures, led by Dimingus Stevens, who had a career-high 24 points. Tillmon tacked on 12 points and Jaylen Bates helped out with 11 points and nine rebounds.

Bates pulled down two offensive rebounds to pace the Florida A&M offense which grabbed 10 boards and turned them into six second chance points.

Florida A&M's defense held Mississippi Valley State to only 37 percent shooting from the field, including 28.6 percent from beyond the arc.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 25-15 advantage, Florida A&M went on a 6-0 run with 5:36 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Bates, to increase its lead to 31-15. The Rattlers then added one point to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 36-19 advantage. Florida A&M relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down eight shots to account for 24 of its 36 points.

Florida A&M kept its lead intact before going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Tarig Eisa's jumper, to grow the lead to 43-35 with 10:22 to go in the contest. The Delta Devils narrowed the margin before the game was over, but the Rattlers still held on for the 60-59 win. Florida A&M got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 10 of its 24 total points.
