Rattlers, Jacobs’ Stellar Day Almost Enough

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | Emerald Jacobs' career day was nearly enough Saturday (Sept. 3). The redshirt sophomore recorded a game-high 23 kills to go alongside a career-high 17 digs in Florida A&M volleyball's 3-2 decision to James Madison. Team success was also within reach.

The Rattlers commanded a 2-1 victory heading into the fourth set, where a 25-21 loss forced the fifth. And while the final score have favored JMU, 18-25, 26-24, 27-29, 25-21, 15-12, it was one of the best complete performances FAMU put together all season. The team left with single-match highs in sets (5), kills (67), hitting percentage (.226), assists (64), digs (82), total blocks (12), and points (85).

The afternoon was highlighted by tenacity; the Rattlers compiled late runs -- a 6-1 late in the second that evened the score at 23- all and an 8-2 that pulled them within a point, 18-17, in the fourth -- but they weren't quite able to turn the corner for the set wins. It didn't stop the team from fighting, however, as they remained on the Dukes' heels through the final points.

FAMU returns to play in the Elon/North Carolina A&T Tournament that starts Friday; it will meet UNC Greensboro and the tourney hosts.
