Rattlers Battle With North Carolina Early Despite Being Undermanned

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. | Florida A&M traveled to North Carolina short 20 players and three starters in Isaiah Land, BJ Bohler, and Cameron Covin, but that did not stop the Rattlers from competing with the Tar Heels.

"We're thankful for the opportunity to come to Chapel Hill and play in this football game," said Head Coach Willie Simmons. "Everyone knows what we've endured in the last 48 hours. Just to be here and have these guys compete, I'm really proud of them. I'm extremely proud of how they fought, how they competed, and how they represented what we believe in. I think we answered some questions tonight, and I think we earned some respect tonight from a lot of people."

Moussa Impresses in First NCAA Collegiate Start

After being named the starting quarterback in the week, Jeremy Moussa proved why despite throwing an interception. Moussa completed 28 of 38 passes for 279 yards and two touchdowns. On the Rattlers' third offensive drive, Moussa drove the Rattlers 75-yards on eight plays, capping it off with a 17-yard connection with A.J. Davis for his first career NCAA touchdown pass. The touchdown reception was Davis's first touchdown as a Rattler. In the Rattlers' first drive of the second quarter, Moussa drove the offense 75 yards on 12 plays as Jaylen McCloud ran through four Tar Heels to score a touchdown from four yards out.

In the two opening drives of the 3rd quarter, Moussa led the Rattlers down the field for two scoring drives. One finished with a 35-yard field goal from Romo-Martinez, and the other with a 22-yard touchdown pass to Trevonte Davis.

Moussa connected with seven different receivers on completions for 15+ yards and completed a pass to nine different receivers.

Rushing Offensive and Defensive Struggles

Both the offensive and defensive run game struggled tonight as the offense only managed to rush for 56 yards on 27 carries while the defense allowed 294 yards on 29 carries.

Secondary Woes

The defensive secondary looked to have several miscommunication issues that resulted in big passing plays for the Tar Heels and allowed quarterback Drake Maye to throw for 297 yards and five touchdowns.

The Rattlers turn their attention to SWAC-rival Jackson State as they look to avenge their one-point loss in last year's Orange Blossom Classic.
