GULFPORT, Miss. | Florida A&M softball travel to Gulfport, Mississippi, as they participate in their first SWAC Tournament when they play the SWAC West 2-seed Prairie View A&M Tuesday, May 10, at noon central.
"We're excited we were able to come in and make an immediate shift in the conference and get to the tournament our first year," said Head Coach Constance Orr. "We are taking it one game at a time, and right now, our primary focus is playing our best game against Prairie View A&M.
"Our team goal is to win a SWAC championship, and that is what we've come to Gulfport to accomplish."
Scouting the Rattlers
• The Rattlers can count on hitting a double as they're tied for second in the SWAC in total doubles (55) and doubles per game (1.17)
• Nyah Morgan has been a doubles machine this season as she's ranked 17 in the nation and first in the SWAC with 16 doubles
• True freshman Lauryn Peppers has been one of our best pitchers this season as she leads the SWAC and is ranked 55th in the nation in hits allowed per seven innings (4.73). Peppers is second in the SWAC in ERA (2.19) and first in opposing batting average (.198)
Scouting the Panthers
• The Panthers are one of the best hitting teams in the SWAC as they're first in the SWAC in batting average, doubles, home runs per game, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage
• The Panthers have one of the best hitters in the nation in Biviana Figueroa. Figueroa has the nation's second-best batting average (.495) and the seventh-best on-base percentage (.566)
• The Panthers' best pitcher is Cailin Massey, as she leads the team in wins (8), ERA (5.5), and strikeouts (90).
