GULFPORT, Miss. | Florida A&M softball's first year in the SWAC ended Wednesday afternoon after a 13-3 loss to Southern in the SWAC Tournament.
Both teams had a scoreless first inning before Southern took advantage of some Rattlers' errors in the second to score five unearned runs. The Rattlers responded with two runs after Jania Davis hit a single to left-center, driving in Jane'a Mobley and Alexis Jones.
The Jaguars added a run in the fourth and three in the fifth to take a 9-2 lead. The Rattlers added another run with back-to-back doubles from Aniyza Vargas and Jane'a Mobley, scoring Vargas in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 9-3 game. In the seventh inning, the Jaguars added four more runs to take a 13-3 lead.
The Rattlers stepped up with one more opportunity to come back, but Jania Davis was the only Rattler to make a hit before the game ended with a fly-out from Nyah Morgan.
