NFL Draft is Here, and Five Rattlers Look to Make the Jump

4/28/2022 6:00:00 PM

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | Florida A&M football has produced one NFL Hall of Famer in Bob Hayes, multiple Super Bowl Champions, and 66 NFL Draft selections, and this weekend the Rattlers look to add to the list.

"The NFL Draft is always an exciting time," said Head Coach Willie Simmons. "Guys have the opportunity to have their dreams come true, and fortunately for us, we have five young men that have put the work in to have that opportunity.

"We are anxious to see where they land and know that some NFL teams are adding five quality young men that love ball, do things the right way, and will represent their organization in a first-class manner the same way they represented FAMU. We are all excited and can't wait to see what happens this weekend."

Rattlers NFL Prospects

The Rattlers have five major prospects that have the opportunity to hear their name this weekend: safety Markquese Bell, defensive lineman Savion Williams, offensive lineman Keenan Forbes, defensive back Antwan Collier, and offensive lineman Jay Jackson-Williams. They all can be the first Rattler to be drafted since the Detroit Lions selected linebacker Brandon Hepburn with the 245th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Markquese Bell

Markquese Bell enters the weekend as the Rattler with the best opportunity to hear his name called after back-to-back All-American seasons, an invitation to play in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, and dominating the NFL Combine. Bell is ranked as the 193rd best player on ESPN's Todd McShay's rankings and the 15th best safety.

Bell has been mocked to the Los Angeles Chargers (CBS Sports), Jacksonville Jaguars (Sporting News, NFL), and the Pittsburgh Steelers (Pro Football Network).

Savion Williams

Savion Williams joined the Rattlers this season after transferring from Tennessee and made an immediate impact after recording a sack versus South Carolina State in his first game as a Rattler. Williams finished the season with 6.5 sacks, earned All-SWAC honors, and competed in the HBCU Legacy Bowl. Williams is ranked the 29th best defensive tackle on ESPN's Todd McShay's rankings.

Keenan Forbes

Keenan Forbes joined the Rattlers for the 2019 season and was dominant in the trenches as he was a two-time All-American and earned All-MEAC and All-SWAC honors in his two seasons at Florida A&M. Forbes is ranked the 39th best tackle on ESPN Todd McShay's rankings.

Antwan Collier

Antwan Collier joined the Rattlers this fall and was one of the best defenders for the Rattlers, finishing with the fourth-most tackles and second-most pass breakups. Collier participated in the HBCU Legacy Bowl and was named the Defensive MVP.

Jay Jackson-Williams

Jay Jackson-Williams crossed the tracks this fall, joining the Rattlers after spending time with the Seminoles. In his lone season with the Rattlers, Jackson-Williams earned All-SWAC honors. Jackson-Williams participated in the 2022 Tropical Bowl.

The 2022 NFL Draft begins Thursday night and finishes on Saturday evening. Fans may watch the draft on ESPN or NFL Network.
