Rattlers Pick-Up Two Wins in Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. | Florida A&M softball traveled to Tampa to compete versus #23 USF (twice), Army (twice), and UIC, and they will return to Tallahassee with two wins.

Game One - FAMU (7) vs Army (6)

The Rattlers took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd after Jane'a Mobley bunted in Destiny Cuevas and Desirae Beacham scored from a sac fly from Natasha Fox. The Rattlers gave up a run in the top of the third but responded with a three-run third, which started from a two-run home run from Nyah Morgan. Then with the bases loaded, Natasha Fox reached on a fielder's choice and earned another RBI as Destiny Cuevas earned another run. The Rattlers gave up another run in the top of the fifth but responded with a two-run fifth inning after Desirae Beacham batted in Destiny Cuevas and Cris'Deona Beasley to take a 7-2 lead into the sixth. In the top of the sixth, Army took advantage of a Rattlers' error and scored four unearned runs to bring the game within one run. In the bottom of the sixth, the Rattlers were three up and three down to go into the final inning. At the top of the seventh, Army opened the inning, flying out to right field. The next at-bat Army reached on an error and then singled to left field, putting a player on first and second with one out. The Rattlers made a pitching change to Cris'Deona Beasley, and the Rattlers got two quick outs to win the game.

Game Two - FAMU (3) vs. #23 USF (6)

The Rattlers fell early to the Bulls after a four-run second inning. The Bulls added another run to their lead in the bottom of the fifth. In the sixth inning, the Rattlers put some pressure on the Bulls, scoring three runs, but it was not enough as the Bulls would hold on to win 6-3.

Game Three - FAMU (2) vs. UIC (1)

The pitching and defense were dominant from both the Rattlers and Flames as there were seven scoreless innings. In the top of the eighth, Jane'a Mobley singled up the middle as MeAsia Armstrong scored the game's first run. In the bottom of the eighth, the Flames responded with their own run to tie the game. In the top of the ninth, Cris'Deona Beasley scored the eventual game-winning run as the Rattlers held the Flames scoreless in the bottom of the ninth to win 2-1.

Game Four - FAMU (2) vs. Army (4)

The Rattlers found themselves down 4-0 heading into the top of the seventh and scored two runs, but it would not be enough as they lost to Army 4-2.

Game Five - FAMU (0) vs. #23 USF (9)

The Rattlers could not get anything going in the second game versus the Bulls as they were held hitless en route to a 9-0 loss.

The Rattlers return to Tallahassee with a doubleheader versus Furman Wednesday, March 9, starting at 3 p.m. with $5 admission.
