Tallahassee, Fla. | Florida A&M baseball lost a heartbreaker, 9-6 in twelve innings to the Jacksonville Dolphins at Moore-Kittles Field.
The Rattlers got the scoring started early, in the bottom of the third inning, when Jalen Niles and Zeddric Burnham both got on base via bunt singles and advanced on wild pitches, the second of which allowed Jalen Niles to score, giving them the 1-0 lead. Jacksonville then tied the game in the top of the 4th with an RBI single by Trace Burchard. The Rattlers added another run in the bottom of the 4th, on a wild pitch that scored Ty Hanchey to re-take the lead. But the Dolphins tied it back up in the top half of the 5th, with an RBI double by Christian Copiel that made it a 2-2 ballgame.
Jacksonville added four unanswered runs in the sixth and seventh, respectively, but the Rattlers would not go down without a fight. L.J. Bryant hit a two-run double in the home half of the seventh to make it a 6-4 game. Later in the inning, an error on a routine fly ball hit by Grant Rowell to Dolphins 3rd baseman Jonah Diaz allowed L.J. Bryant to score and made it a 6-5 game. Then in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Rattlers launched a fantastic comeback and got the bases loaded for Ethan Jenkins, who promptly walked to tie the game at 6-6, sending the games to extras.
The Rattlers could get runners in scoring position in the tenth with no one out but was unable to take the game in that inning. In the twelfth inning, the floodgates opened for the Dolphins, as they added three runs in the inning to put the game out of reach. The Rattlers attempted a comeback in the twelfth but failed, falling 9-6.
The Rattlers fall to 9-17 on the season. They return to action against Alabama A&M in SWAC action Friday to kick off weekend series.
