MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Florida A&M softball traveled to Montgomery for the HBCU Celebration Tournament and returned to Tallahassee with two wins after defeating South Carolina State and Grambling State on Sunday.
Game One – S.C. State, L 5-3
The Rattlers fell early as the Bulldogs took a one-run lead in the bottom of the first, but the Rattlers battled back, scoring a run in the second to tie. The Bulldogs added a run in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead, and the Rattlers responded with a two-run fifth inning to take a 3-2 lead. The Bulldogs would combine for three runs in the fifth and sixth to go on and win 5-3.
Game Two – Grambling State, L 3-1
The Rattlers struck first versus the Tigers as
Destiny Cuevas singled to right field as
Nyah Morgan scored the Rattlers' lone run. The Rattlers held the Tigers through the first four innings until the Tigers scored a run in the fifth to tie the game. The Tigers scored two runs in the top of the seventh to go on and win 3-1.
Game Three – S.C. State, W 6-3
The Rattlers struck early and often the second time they played the Bulldogs as they scored two runs in each of the first three innings to take a 6-0 lead. The Rattlers pitching was dominant until the seventh when the Bulldogs managed to score three runs, but it wasn't enough as the Rattlers would win 6-3.
Game Four – Grambling State, W 5-4
The Rattlers took a quick 2-0 lead in the first, but the Tigers responded with their own two run first inning to tie it at two. The Rattlers retook the lead in the third inning
Desirae Beacham singled up the middle to score
Nyah Morgan, but the Tigers responded with two runs in the bottom of the third to take a 4-3 lead. In the next inning, Beacham came up big with a two-run single to right center, scoring
Kiauna Watson and
Mia Blasingane, giving the Rattlers a 5-4 lead. The Rattlers defense showed up the final four innings of the game holding the Tigers scoreless to win 5-4.
The Rattlers return to action for their home-opener versus third-ranked Florida State Tuesday, March 1 at 6 p.m. Eastern. Admission to the game will be $5.
