WACO, Texas | Florida A&M football head coach Willie Simmons has been named the AFCA Region 3 Coach of the Year after completing his third consecutive nine-win season and top-25 ranking for the Rattlers.

Coach Simmons became the third FAMU Head Coach to earn Regional Coach of the Year as Jake Gaither earned recognition in 1960, 61, and 63 and Rudy Hubbard in 1977.
 
"I am extremely humbled to be named FCS Region 3 Coach of the Year!" said Head Coach Willie Simmons. "This award is attributed to the hard work and dedication put forth by my coaching staff, support staff, and the best group of young men anyone could ask for to coach. It feels great to be recognized by my peers for what we've accomplished here."

Coach Simmons is one of five finalists for the AFCA FCS Coach of the Year Award.
