TALLAHASSEE, FL --Ahriahna Grizzle and Dylan Horton combined to score 41 total points - 66.1 percent of Florida A&M's points - in the Rattlers 62-58 win over the West Florida Argonauts at home Wednesday.
The Rattlers (0-0) had two players score in double figures, led by Grizzle, who had 26 points, four assists and five steals. Horton tacked on 15 points and two steals and Mide Oriyomi added nine points and eight rebounds.
Florida A&M collected 38 rebounds in Wednesday's game compared to West Florida's 37, led by Oriyomi's eight boards. The Rattlers also cleaned up the offensive glass, turning 14 rebounds into 11 second chance points.
Florida A&M's defense held West Florida to only 19 percent shooting from beyond the arc and 32.8 percent from the field.
How It Happened
After falling behind 15-9, Florida A&M went on an 8-0 run with 3:58 left in the first quarter to take a 17-15 lead. West Florida then responded to tie things up at 17-17 heading into the second quarter.
The Argonauts then eked out an advantage in quarter number two as the Rattlers headed into the breaking trailing 37-35.
West Florida continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 41-37 advantage before Florida A&M went on a 10-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Horton, to grab a 47-41 lead with 2:34 to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the Argonauts had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Rattlers still entered the fourth quarter with a 49-48 edge. Florida A&M played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 14 points in the paint.
West Florida proceeded to take a 52-49 lead before Florida A&M went on an 8-0 run to seize a 57-52 lead with 2:34 to go in the contest. The Argonauts narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Rattlers still held on for the 62-58 win. Florida A&M took advantage of four West Florida turnovers in the quarter, scoring five points off of those takeaways.
