Rattlers Advance to SWAC Semifinals

HOUSTON (Nov. 18) | The No. 2 Florida A&M volleyball team began its journey in the 2022 Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament with success - a straight-set victory over No. 7 Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Florida A&M 3, Arkansas-Pine Bluff 0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-14)

Florida A&M put 18 points on the scoreboard before the Lions could reach 10, and the opening frame set the tone for the rest of the evening. The Rattlers dominated every statistical category kills (40 - 25), hitting percentage (.341 - .046), digs (56 - 34), and blocks (6 - 3) while commanding a 69.8 side-out percentage.

The second set captured the most back-and-forth play, as highlighted by the seven stalemates, but the third ran quite similar to the first. Irem Ucar kicked off the last frame with back-to-back service aces, and Florida A&M recorded 22 points before UAPB could crack double-digits.

The SWAC Player of the Year, Dominique Washington, finished the match with 13 kills, while the league's Libero of the Year Brooke Hudson added 20 digs. FAMU also lays claim to the SWAC Setter of the Year (Ucar) and Newcomer of the Year (Brooke Lynn Watts); the former added 34 assists, and the latter eight kills and eight digs.

Advancing to the next round of the SWAC Tournament, the Rattlers now await their next opponent - the winner of No. 3 Grambling State or No. 6 Bethune-Cookman. The semifinal match is scheduled for Saturday (Nov. 19) at 4:30 p.m. CT / 5:30 p.m. ET.
