Rattlers Dominate JSU

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | The Florida A&M volleyball team dominated Jackson State in nearly every statistical category Saturday (Oct. 11) en route to a 3-1 victory. The home outing saw the Rattlers edge JSU in points (66-59), kills (52-46), aces (8-7), assists (48-44), and digs (60-58) to improve to 17-12 overall and 14-1 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

Florida A&M 3, Jackson State 1 (16-25, 25-10, 25-20, 25-23)

Jackson State claimed the opening set 25-16, but the Rattlers responded astonishingly by limiting their opponent to just 10 points in the second. With Irem Ucar back to serve, the frame featured an 11-0 FAMU run, which catapulted the team to a 23-9 advantage on the scoreboard.

The latter two sets were determined late, with Florida A&M recording the final three points in each to pull firmly ahead. Dominique Washington (16 kills, 11 digs) and Emerald Jacobs (10 kills, 10 digs) each recorded a double-double, and Brooke Lynn Watts was a kill and dig short of joining them.

FAMU concludes its regular season schedule Sunday (Oct. 13) versus Mississippi Valley State. Karina Pressoir, Mariana Donado Yepes, Irem Ucar, Aybuke Kocabiyik, and Dominique Washington will be honored in a senior celebration prior to the 10 a.m. start.
