Norfolk, Va. | Florida A&M women's tennis (3-9, 2-1 MEAC) is headed to the 2021 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tennis Championship match after knocking off the MEAC Northern Division No. 1 seed, Norfolk State (8-5, 3-0 MEAC), 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center in Norfolk, Va. on Saturday morning.
NSU jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point to open the match. In the doubles match, the duo of
Aylen Hubeaut and
Haleigh Porter fell 6-2 to NSU's Zoe Fraser and Bruna Goncalves, while
Adrienne Clayton and
Claudia Sumaia lost a hard fought 7-5 decision to Paula Fortuno and Laura Ruiz.
Arielle Nealy and
Rachel Harden's match went unfinished.
FAMU bounced back in singles action, sweeping every match. Porter earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Fortuno court no. 1. Hubeaut handled Ruiz in the no. 2 singles sport, winning 6-2, 6-1. Harden defeated Barcenas 6-0, 6-4 and Nealy clinch the match for the Rattlers, with a 6-0, 7-5 triumph on court no. 4.
