Tallahassee, Fla. | The Florida A&M softball team fought valiantly against the University of North Dakota, but late inning rallies by the Fighting Hawks, proved to be too much as the Rattlers lost both games of a doubleheader, 6-0 and 5-0.
Game 1
In the first contest, hits came at a premium for the Rattlers, who were only able register four in the contest. FAMU's leading hitter,
Melkayla Irvis, went 1-for-3 with a strikeout in the early game.
Kaylin Rhone,
Brianne Hill and
Brandice Boatwright were all able get a hit against UND starter, Jannay Jones.
The Fighting Hawks tallied 12 hits and were led at the plate by Chevelle Sartin who went 3-for-4 with three doubles and a run scored.
FAMU starting pitcher
Nadia Zenteno, tossed four scoreless innings to start the contest. Zenteno went 6.1 innings surrendering six runs on 12 hits.
Gabriella Williams entered in relief, throwing the final 0.2 innings with one walk and no runs given up.
UND's Johnson pitched a complete game shutout, giving up four hits with five strikeouts and two walks.
Game 2
FAMU found a bit more success at the plate in the nightcap, outhitting UND 7-5, despite the loss.
The seven hits were the Rattlers' most in a single contest this season.
Kaylin Rhone and
Sydnee Worthy led the FAMU offense in game two, both going 2-for-3.
Starting pitcher
Brandice Boatwright (0-5), held UND hitless until the top of the fourth inning. The Fighting Hawks' first hit also happened to be their first RBI of the ball game. Boatwright worked 7.0 innings, allowing five hits with striking out a season-high four batters while giving up five walks.
Adrianna Dilal (2-3) got the victory and shutout for UND, giving up seven hits in 7.0 innings with three strikeouts.
