Savannah, Ga. | Florida A&M women's tennis had a big weekend in Savannah, Ga. earning victories over MEAC foes, North Carolina A&T and North Carolina Central, this weekend. The Rattlers swept A&T 7-0 on Saturday, then returned to the courts to beat NCCU 5-2 on Monday afternoon.
Match One
FAMU (2-6, 2-0 MEAC) dominated A&T from beginning to end, earning a sweep over the Aggies.
The Rattlers swept the doubles courts to win the doubles point. The duo of
Aylen Hubeaut and
Haleigh Porter defeated Renata Ruiz Rabadan and Mikaya Hamilton 6-1 on court no. 1. FAMU clinched the point when
Arielle Nealy and
Rachel Harden earned a 6-3 triumph over Ameer Robertson and Florielvis Hurtado on court no. 2.
Claudia Sumaia and
Adrienne Clayton cruised to a 6-3 victory in the third doubles match.
In singles action,
Rachel Harden didn't surrender a point as she beat Robertson 6-0, 6-0 to claim her first victory of the season. Ayelen Hubeaut won over Mikaya Hamilton 6-2, 6-1.
Freshman
Claudia Sumaia, earned her first collegiate victory, beating Manuela Jiminez in straight sets 6-3, 7-5).
Adrienne Clayton,
Arielle Nealy and Haleight Port finished the job in the matches all earning huge victories to lift FAMU to its first match victory of the season.
Match Two
FAMU's match with NCCU was delayed a day due to rain. However, once the tarp was off the court, the Rattlers picked up where they left off on Saturday.
After dropped the first doubles match of the day, Harden and Nealy claimed a win, defeating NCCU's Maru Berghaus and Ivana Dragovic in a tiebreak 7-6 (7). FAMU won the doubles point due to a withdrawal by the Eagles.
In singles action, Harden kept her momentum going, sailing to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Berghaus.
Hubeaut outlasted NCCU's Jade Houston, winning in a three set tiebreaker, 7-5, 2-6, 10-7.
Nealy also put on a sensational performance, dismantling Dragovic 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 4 singles match.
The Rattlers clinched the match when NCCU withdrew from a match featuring Sumaia.
Porter fell Josefa Fernandez on court no. 1 by the score of 6-1, 7-5 and Clayton dropped her singles match to Maria Picazo 6-0, 6-1.
