Johnson Drives in Three Runs as Florida A&M Comes Up Short Against Mercer

Tallahassee, Fla. | Junior infielder Evan Johnson, picked up three RBI as Florida A&M lost its series finale with Mercer, 10-6, on Wednesday afternoon at Moore-Kittles Field.
 
Johnson went 1-for-5, but accounted for half of the Rattlers' runs, registering his RBIs in his final two at-bats of the day.
 
Senior infielder Octavien Moyer extended his hitting streak to seven games, going 2-for-4 with double and one walk. 
 
As a team, FAMU tallied nine hits compared to Mercer's 12. 
 
The Rattlers' pitching staff combined for 11 strikeouts but gave up 10 walks along with 10 runs (eight earned) on 10 hits. Khalil Wilson (0-2) got the loss working 2.0 innings, striking out four and walking four while allowing four runs on four hits. 
 
After the Bears jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the second inning, Tristan Cooper opened the bottom half of the inning smacking a double to left field. After Cooper advanced to third on a groundball, Adam Haidermota scored him on a groundball to third base. 
 
In the bottom of the fourth inning, with Mercer up 5-1, FAMU cut the lead to two following RBI singles by Haidermota and Miles Watson.
 
The Bears added two runs in the fifth inning and one run in the seventh, stretching its lead to 8-3. 
 
FAMU answered back in the bottom of the seventh when Evan Johnson drilled a two-RBI single up the gap, cutting Mercer's advantage to 8-5. The Rattlers worked the bases loaded, but couldn't get any more runs across, ending the inning on a strikeout
 
The Rattlers' scored their sixth and final run of the contest on a groundball by Johnson to first base for his third RBI of the day.

FAMU gears up for four-game weekend home series versus Florida Gulf Coast on March 19-21. First pitch on Friday is set for 5 p.m.
