Norfolk, Va.| Sophomore pitcher Nadia Zenteno and junior shortstop Seriah Brokenborough earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) second-team honors, while the Florida A&M softball team was selected to finish first in the MEAC Southern Division, the conference announced on Thursday.

During the COVID-shortened 2020 season, Zenteno posted a 6.80 ERA while leading the Rattler pitching staff with 14 strikeouts. She appeared in 14 games, making seven starts. Zenteno worked 43.2 innings.

Brokenborough started 19 games last season, batting .191, with two doubles and one RBI. She came on strong in the final seven games of the season, posting a .352 batting average during that stretch. In 2019, the Eustis, Fla. native helped lead the Rattlers back to the MEAC Championship round, batting .229, with 25 RBI, three doubles and one home run.

In the MEAC preseason projections, FAMU was picked to finish first in the southern division, garnering 73 points and 16 first-place votes. North Carolina Central was predicted second with 50 points and two first-place votes, followed by North Carolina A&T (47, one first-place vote) and South Carolina State (20).

In the northern division, Howard was picked to lead the pack with 78 points and eight first-place votes. Norfolk State, which earned nine first-place votes, was picked to finish second with 77 points. Rounding out the projections were Morgan State (67, two first-place votes), Delaware State (37) and Coppin State (26).
