Rattlers Historic Season Continues in NCAA Tournament

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | The Florida A&M volleyball team is off to Gainesville Thursday (Dec. 2) for its 12th trip to the NCAA Tournament, where it will meet Florida in an opening-round match. The game will air on SEC Network+.

Gainesville First & Second Rounds 
First Round | Thursday, Dec. 2
Florida A&M vs. Florida - 7 p.m.

Second Round | Friday, Dec. 3
Winner of FAMU/UF vs. Winner of South Alabama/Miami - 7 p.m.

Florida will also serve as the site host for the first and second rounds of the 2021 NCAA Division I Volleyball Tournament. General admission tickets can be purchased online, at the Gator Ticket Office, or by calling the Gator Ticket Office at 352-375-4683.

About the Rattlers 

  • In its debut season in the league, Florida A&M claimed its first Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship title -- after upsetting the defending champion Jackson State, 3-2.
  • The Rattlers (25-6, 14-2) are working their first 20-win campaign since 2006. 
  • The team is in the midst of a 12-game winning streak, and the successful season also highlights 18 sweeps. 
  • A 3-2 triumph over Auburn (Sept. 17) marked FAMU's first win against a Power 5 institution since 2006.
  • Gokhan Yilmaz secured his 50th as a head coach in the 3-0 decision over Alcorn State (Oct. 10); he compiled 17 in a single season at Charlotte (2014-15) and has 46 at the helm of FAMU.

NCAA Tournament Appearances
The Rattlers have 11 NCAA appearances under their belt, with nine straight qualifications from 2001-2009. Their postseason record is 1-9, with their lone win occurring in a 3-0 victory over Winthrop in 2003. 

FAMU has met Florida four times in NCAA tournament play.
