Rattler Volleyball Takes Care of Business at Home

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | Defending home court is a top priority for the Florida A&M volleyball team. Need evidence? Check out its 5-1 record inside the Al Lawson Center this season.

The Rattlers (15-6, 7-2) padded their home resume Saturday (Oct. 23) in a 3-0 sweep over Mississippi Valley State.

Points No. 1, 2, and 3 belonged to the Rattlers, and the advantage quickly grew into an 11-1 run featuring back-to-back service aces by Dominique Turner. The Atlanta, Ga., tagged in a fellow Dominique (Washington) to conclude the set, and her service ace settled the 25-15 score.

The Rattlers dominated the floor all afternoon, offensively and defensively, and even showed a bit of grit when MVSU jumped out to a 6-3 lead at the start of the second set. It was short-lived, as FAMU forced ties at 9-all and 10-all before securing the upper hand.

All three sets were determined by at least 10 points (25-15, 25-14, 25-13), and Florida A&M now has 12 sweeps this season. The team held the advantage in kills (44-20), hitting percentage (.380-.071), assists (34-14), service aces (12-6), and digs (44-29).

Washington concluded the match with a team-high 11 kills and eight digs, while Aybuke Kocabiyik added seven kills and Emerald Jacobs tabbed six.

The Rattlers return to their home court Monday as they prepare to meet Jackson State at 6 p.m.
