Melton named to All-MEAC Second Team

NORFOLK, Va. | Florida A&M University senior guard Rod Melton, Jr. was selected to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's Basketball Second Team, the conference announced on Friday.
 
Melton played in all 27 games for the Rattlers, where he led the team in scoring at 13.7 points per game. In addition, he averaged 3.1 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.3 steals in 33.1 minutes. The Dothan, Ala. native shot 41.7 percent from the floor and 35.9 percent from behind the three-point line. Melton scored in double figures 19 times and tied a career-high 27 points in a win over Howard on Jan. 25.

Joining Melton on the second tam was Charles Williams (Howard), John Crosby (Delaware State), Isaiah Bailey (Bethune-Cookman) and Damani Applewhite (South Carolina State).
 
Jibri Blount, the MEAC Player of the Year, was named to the All-MEAC First Team and was joined by Ronald Jackson (North Carolina A&T State), Cletrell Pope (Bethune-Cookman), the MEAC Defensive Player of the Year, Kameron Langley (North Carolina A&T State) and Jermaine Bishop (Norfolk State).
 
Steven Whitley (Norfolk State), Stanley Davis, Jr. (Morgan State), Dejuan Clayton (Coppin State), Brendan Medley-Bacon (Coppin State) and C.J. Keyser (North Carolina Central) earned All-MEAC Third-Team honors.
 
Howard's Wayne Bristol, Jr., the MEAC Rookie of the Year, highlighted the all-rookie team. He was joined by Joe French (Bethune-Cookman), Fred Cleveland, Jr. (North Carolina A&T State), Da'Shawn Phillip (Maryland Eastern Shore) and Tyrese Jenkins (Norfolk State).
 
Willie Jones, of North Carolina A&T State, was selected the MEAC Coach of the Year.
 
Florida A&M ended the season on Thursday night with a loss to rival Bethune-Cookman. The Rattlers finished at 12-15 overall and 10-6 in the MEAC.
