Florida A&M drops pair of matches

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. | The Florida A&M University women's tennis team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday at the UNF Tennis Complex.
 
Florida (0-3) fell in the opening match to Georgia Southern, 5-2, and concluded the weekend with a 4-1 loss to Flagler.
 
Georgia Southern (5-2 loss)
The Lady Rattlers picked up their two points by taking two-of-three matches in doubles and winning at No. 3 singles.
 
The team of Arielle Nealy and Haleigh Porter opened doubles play with a 6-2 loss to Arianne De Winter and Mila Hartig at No. 2, but the pair of Morgan White and Aylen Hubeaut at No. 1 defeated Paula Boixader and Charlotte Van Diemen, 6-3, to even doubles action at 1. The deciding point came at No. 3 when Rachel Harden and Ofure Osabuohlen knocked off Hannah Daniel and Paula Hijos, 6-4, giving FAMU the doubles point and the 1-0 lead in the match.
 
In singles play, Georgia Southern won at No. 2, No. 5, No. 6 and sealed the victory at No. 1 as Boixader defeated Hubeaut, 6-3, 6-4. GSU got the win at No. 5 for its fifth win as Harden bested De Winter, 2-6, 6-1, 1-0 (11-9) to give the Lady Rattlers their final point in the 5-2 loss.
 
Flagler (4-1 loss)
Florida A&M fell behind 1-0 after doubles and picked up three wins in singles play to claim the match.
 
In doubles action, Hubeaut and White fell to Alessandra Traub and Palmoa Martinez, 6-1, at No. 1, but the team of Nealy and Porter defeated Lixin Wang and Anika Nissen, 6-2, at No. 2 to even play at 1. However, Osabuohlen and Harden dropped their match at No. 3, which allowed Flagler to earn the doubles point.
 
The Saints won matches at No. 5 and No. 3, to grab a 3-0 lead, but a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles by Nealy closed the gap to 3-1. But Flagler picked up the win by claiming No. 1 singles.
