Box Score TROY, Ala. (Sept. 20) – The FAMU Women's Volleyball team gutted out a tough four-set victory over Southern University-Baton Rouge Friday afternoon in the Troy University Invitational at Trojan Arena.
FAMU (2-8) won the opener, 27-25, before the Jaguars (0-10) ralied to even the match with a 25-22 win in the second set.
The Rattlers took control of the match in the third set, after prevailing, 29-27., going on to close out the Jaguars. 25-16 in the fourth period.
Graduate outside Maria Yvett Garcia recorded 19 kills and 11 digs to set the pace for FAMU. Junior Alexis Gosha and senior Elena Dimitrova each added 10 kills, and both figured heavily in digs, with Gosha getting 16 and Dimitrova 11.
Celeste Rodriguez led FAMU with 25 digs, while Ilayda Nurkan dished out a team-high 25 assists, followed by Dimitrova with 19.
