TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Dec. 17) – The visiting Jacksonville University Dolphins rode a 39-19 first half surge to an eventually 88-54 win over the FAMU Women's Basketball team in the Al Lawson Center Tuesday night.
FAMU (2-7) dropped their fourth straight game, as they struggled shooting from the floor (30.2 percent), hurt their cause with turnovers (23) and found themselves out rebounded, 64-33.
Meanwhile the Dolphins (6-5), shot 44.5 percent from the floor, splashing nine of their 18 three-point shots.
The game started out tight in the opening stanza, as both teams hot under 20 percent, with JU takinga 15-7 edge in the first 10 minutes. JU bumped their shooting up to 56 percente in the second stanza, splashing three of their four three-pointers to 26 percent for FAMU, doubling up the Rattlers on the scoreboard, 24-12, to build their 39-19 halftime lead.
Both clubs shot better than 60 percent (64.3 for JU, and 62.5 by FAMU), but the visitors edged out their hosts, 25-18, a trend which continued in the final stanza, as JU nipped the Rattlers, 24-17, to close out the game.
Neither team had a good night from the foul line, as FAMU hit just 14 of 29 charity tosses (48.3 percent) to 17 of 36 by the Dolphins (47.2 percent).
Sophomore
Jasmine Ballew led FAMU with 15 points, splashing a trio of three-pointers, while freshman Alina Rice added 11 points, sharing team high rebounding honors with
Kayla Massop with seven boards each.
Setting the pace for Jacksonville was Destiny Marshall with a game-high 24 points, Shakayla Nevitt with 22 points, including four three-pointers, Erin Wilson with 12 points, and Jada Perry with a game-high 11 rebhounds.
