FAMU Drops Heartbreaker To Gamecocks, 70-66

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (Nov. 9) – The FAMU Women's Basketball team lost a heartbreaking 70-66 decision to Jacksonville State at the Pete Matthews Colisieum Saturday afternoon.

FAMU (0-2) rode an 18-10 second quarter scoring flurry to take a 33-32 halftime lead, led by six points from Keziah Dilworth and four points from Alaina Rice.

In the third period, the tide changed a bit as the Gamecocks (1-1) grabbed the lead for good, with a 22-12 scoring jag, vaulting in front, 54-45 with 10 minutes left.

The Rattlers battled back in the fourth, closing to three points, 67-64, on a Keziah Dilworth jumper with 1:10 left, before pulling to within one at 67-66, thanks to a pair of free throws by Kailya Jackson with 29 seconds left.

JSU iced the game with a trio of free throws over the next 12 seconds to extend their lead to the 70-66 final.

Alaina Rice led FAMU with 14 points, followed by Dilworth with 12 points and seven rebounds. The trio of Keilya Jackson, Corey Staples and Jasmine Ballew each scored eight points, with Staples splashing a pair of three-pointers in six tries, while Jackson added five rebounds.

WHAT'S NEXT: FAMU will open its' 2019-20 home schedule next Friday, November 15 against Trinity Baptist College at 6:00 p.m. in The Al Lawson Center.
