FAMU 3rd Among HBCUs In Super Bowl Alumni

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Jan. 30) – When New England Patriot receiver Brian Tyms walked onto the field in last year's Super Bowl 49, he was making FAMU Athletics History.

Tyms' performance, which helped the Patriots win the NFL World Championship over Seattle, marked the 27th appearance all-time by a Rattler Football alumni, since the game began in 1968 with the Green Bay Packers against the Kansas City Chiefs.

CBSSports.com recently published a complete list of colleges and universities which produced players making the most Super Bowl game appearances, and among Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), FAMU ranked third trailing only Tennessee State (32) and Grambling (28).

Tyms is a member of a select cadre of Rattler Super Bowl alums, a group which includes NFL Hall of Fame receiver Robert “Bullet Bob” Hayes (Dallas), OT Henry “Killer” Lawrence (Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders), DB Ken Riley (Cincinnati) and OG Nate “The Kitchen” Newton (Dallas).
