GREENSBORO, N.C. (Nov. 6) -
Philip Sylvester scored on 14-yard run in
overtime to give the Florida A&M University Football team a 22-19
win over North Carolina A&T State University, here Saturday
afternoon at Aggie Stadium.
Kevin Elliott gave the Rattlers a
7-0 lead with 7:53 to go in the first quarter as he scored on a
eight-yard pass from Austin Trainor, after the made
Trevor Scott PAT.
Two
minutes later the, Aggies cut FAMU's lead to 7-6 as quarterback George
Hines scored on a five-yard run with 5:23 to go in the first. The
Sullivan Shidler PAT was blocked.
Then Vernon White would score
on a 12-yard fumble recovery with 1:38 to go in the first quarter,
giving N.C. A&T a 13-7 lead after the Shidler made PAT.
Scott cut the Aggies' lead to 13-10 on a made 29-yard field by Shidler, with 14:48 to go in the half.
Shidler gave N.C.A&T a 16-10 halftime lead as he connected on a 23-yard field goal as time expired to end the half.
Scott
would tie the game at 16-16 as he made a pair of field goals in the
second half. He connected on a 24-yard field goal with 7:02 to go in
the third, followed by a 46-yard field goal with 4:28 go in the fourth.
FAMU
would win the toss in the overtime period and decided to go on defense
first. The Rattler defense would hold the Aggies to a field goal as
Shidler connected on 21-yard field goal, to give N.C. A&T a 19-16
lead.
FAMU would then be awarded the ball on the N.C. A&T
25-yard line. That's when Sylvester took over for the Rattlers. He
picked up three yards on his first carry, followed by an eight-yard pick
up on his second carry of the overtime period. Then Sylvester would
give FAMU a 22-19 win over N.C. A&T as scored on a14-yard run on his
third carry of the overtime period. Sylvester's run was part power,
part speed and a final show of agility as he crossed the goal line.
FAMU
(6-3, 5-1 MEAC) was led by Sylvester as he rushed for his fourth
consecutive 100-yard game of the season. He finished the game with 110
yards on 32 carries with a TD.
Trainor, in his first ever
collegiate start, finished the game 157 yards passing by completing 16
passes in 35 attempts with a TD and two interceptions.
Elliott
recorded a season-high seven receptions for 49 yards, while Antonio
“T.J.” Lawrence finished with four catches for 36 yards.
FAMU had three Rattlers to finish with six tackles each in Anthony Shutt, Brandon Hepburn and Alphonso Walker.
N.C. A&T (1-9, 1-6 MEAC) was led Mike Mayhew with 31 yard rushing on eight carries.
George
Hines, passed through the air for the Aggies finishing with 156 yards
passing, completing 11 passes in 32 attempts with a pair of
interceptions.
Torrian Warren led the Aggie receivers with 91 yards receiving on six catches.
N.C.
A&T had a trio of the Aggies to finish in double-digit tackles as
Brandon Jackson finished the game with 13 total take downs (5 solo, 8
asst) and 1.5 tackles for a loss of three yards.
Dashaun Graham garnered 11 tackles (4 solos, 7 asst) with 1.0 tackles for a loss of five yards.
Justin
Ferrell rounded out the cast of Aggies in double-digit tackles with
10. He finished the game with seven solos tackles and three assisted
tackles.
The Rattlers will close out their 2010 home football
schedule as they will host Hampton University for senior day on
Saturday, Nov. 13 at Bragg Memorial Stadium in Tallahassee, Fla. Kickoff
is set for 3 p.m.
