Steve Canfield

Steve Canfield became the assistant coach of the women’s volleyball program at Florida A&M University in 2018. Prior to becoming the assistant, Canfield served as a volunteer coach for two seasons (2016-2017). 

Canfield, a veteran of the United States Air Force, brings over thirty years of volleyball coaching experience to FAMU. During his time in the Air Force, he played and coached 14 seasons of adult league volleyball.  In those years he also coached 12 seasons of boys basketball, ages 13 to 18, in both the United States and England (winning the United Kingdom Youth Basketball Championships twice).

Canfield also has over 17 years years of club volleyball experience with over 20 club tournament championships. Canfield also served as a high school head volleyball for 7 seasons (2006-2012) for Mosley High School. During his tenure, his teams earned 7 undefeated County Championships with a 46W-0L record in Bay County, a 2011 FHSAA District 2-6A Volleyball Championship, and 4 straight FHSAA Volleyball “Sweet 16” appearances. He has also served as the District 2 FACA Volleyball and Basketball Chairman for 10 seasons. 

Canfield earned a bachelor's degree in sport management from Florida State University. Canfield is married to Marta and they have four children (Cristina, Stephanie, Deanna and Melanie). Canfield has a Florida Department of Education Athletic Certification, and is USVA IMPACT & Cap Level 1 certified.
