Robert Deadwyler embraces another season at Florida A&M University as the assistant sprints and hurdles coach. Formerly a native of Atlanta, Ga., he matriculated to Florida A&M as a scholarship recipient in the Marching 100 band. Deadwyler went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.Â
Before stepping into the assistant coach role, Deadwyler honed his craft as the hurdle position coach at Richards High School in Tallahassee, Fla., from 2016 to 2021. Under his leadership, Deadwyler’s hurdle group amassed seven district championships, three regional championships, and one state championship (2019 / 300-meter hurdles), along with achieving the No. 1 ranking in the nation (2019 / 300mh). His hurdle group also garnered six First Team Big Bend Athlete of the Year awards, three Second Team Big Bend Athlete of the Year awards, one honorable mention, and one All-Big Bend Track and Field Runner of the Year award.
Deadwyler holds dual certifications in track and field and volleyball. His 10-plus years of coaching experience spans the gamut: parks and recreation (volleyball), AAU (track and field and volleyball), high school (track and field and volleyball), and individual coaching from middle school to high school (track and field and volleyball).Â
Deadwyler espouses a win-win philosophy that communicates elevated expectations for his student-athletes on the field and in the classroom. Consequently, he has over a 90% hurdle scholarship recipient rate. Â
