Reid Sanders joins the Florida A&M University football staff for the 2026 season, bringing a decorated history of offensive success and a reputation for developing elite talent to Tallahassee. Sanders arrives at FAMU following a productive two-year tenure at the University of West Georgia.
During his time in Carrollton (2024–2025), Sanders served as the Quarterbacks Coach and Passing Game Coordinator. He was instrumental in leading the Wolves to a successful 8-3 campaign in 2025. In his role as the quarterback coach, he was pivotal in the development of Davin Wynder, who emerged as one of the most dynamic playmakers in the UAC under Sanders' tutelage, eventually leading to Wynder signing with the University of Louisville via the transfer portal. Previously, in his 2024 debut with the program as the running backs coach, he oversaw a dynamic rushing attack that averaged 149.0 yards per game. Under his guidance, senior Rajaez Mosley flourished, surpassing the 2,000-career-rushing-yard milestone.
Prior to his return to the college ranks, Sanders served as the Head Coach at Rio Americano High School in Sacramento, California (2022–2023). His 2023 campaign was historic, as he led the program to a 9-3 record—the school’s best mark in 30 years—and a berth in the State quarterfinals. For his efforts, he was named the 2023 Sacramento Coach of the Year and was the only high school coach in the country to be named to the prestigious AFCA 35 Under 35 list that year. Before taking the helm at Rio Americano, Sanders served as the Offensive Coordinator at Capital Christian (2021) and St. Augustine High School in New Orleans (2018–2020), where he developed multiple Division I prospects, including Sacramento Offensive Player of the Year, Anthony Garcia.
Sanders’ collegiate coaching background is rooted in championship-level success. In 2017, he returned to his alma mater, Southern University, to coach running backs, where he mentored All-Conference selection Herb Edwards. Prior to that, he spent two seasons (2015–2016) at Georgia State as the running backs coach. During the 2015 season, he helped guide the Panthers to the first bowl game in school history, supported by one of the most prolific passing attacks in college football that year.
His coaching journey began at Southern University in 2012. After a career-ending shoulder injury cut his playing career short, Sanders transitioned immediately into coaching as a student assistant working with the quarterbacks, helping Dray Joseph become one of the most decorated passers in Southern history. He subsequently served as a graduate assistant at Southern from 2013–2014, working with the offensive line. During this time, he mentored a unit that blocked for the SWAC’s all-time leading rusher, Leonard Tillery, and protected standout quarterbacks Dray Joseph and Austin Howard, helping the Jaguars capture the 2013 SWAC Championship and the 2014 Western Division title.
An Atlanta native and a graduate of Westlake High School, Sanders completed his bachelor’s degree at Southern in 2012, followed by a master’s degree in 2014.
