Christopher Cash serves as the Safeties/Nickels Coach at Florida A&M University (FAMU), bringing extensive collegiate, professional, and championship-level experience to the Rattlers’ defensive staff.
Prior to returning to FAMU, Coach Cash was the Defensive Coordinator at Albany State University (2022–2025), where he engineered one of the most dominant defenses in Division II football. In 2025, Albany State led the SIAC and ranked among the nation’s best in multiple categories, including:
- #1 in DII total defense
- #1 in SIAC total defense (258.5 YPG)
- #1 rush defense (89.1 YPG)
- #1 nationally in 3rd-down defense (23.8%) and passing efficiency (88.4 YPG)
- #2 nationally in fumble recoveries (15)
- #2 nationally tackles for loss (113)
- #3 nationally scoring defense (14.14 PPG)
- #4 nationally rushing yards (81.9 YPG)
- #5 nationally in sacks (43) and interceptions (18)
- #6 nationally red-zone defense (64%)
That season culminated in Albany State winning the 2025 NCAA Division II HBCU National Championship, the SIAC Championship (7–0 conference record), and setting a school record with 12 wins (12–2). Individually, Coach Cash coached multiple all-region performers, including Jalen Mitchell (2023) and Luke Rose (2025).
Coach Cash and his defensive staff were honored as the
2025 AFCA Minority Forum Defensive Coaching Staff of the Year, recognizing their excellence and impact on the defensive side of the ball. Additionally, Cash was named a
finalist for the Division II Coordinator of the Year presented by Teamworks (FootballScoop), highlighting his leadership, scheme development, and results at the national level.
Before Albany State, Cash spent 2018–2021 at Alcorn State University as the safeties coach. During his tenure, Alcorn State won back-to-back SWAC Championships, made two Celebration Bowl appearances, and competed for Black National Championships in consecutive seasons. In 2019, Alcorn’s secondary led the nation with 21 interceptions and ranked #1 in the FCS in turnovers gained (36). In the SWAC Championship game, the Braves forced six turnovers, including three interceptions. Cash coached Juwan Taylor, the SWAC Championship Defensive MVP, and Qwynnterrio Cole, an HBCU All-America First-Team selection.
Cash previously coached at Florida A&M University (2013–2014) as safeties coach, where the Rattlers led the nation in passing defense. He also served as Defensive Coordinator at Franklin High School (2011–2012), his alma mater.

A native of Stockton, California, Cash played collegiately at Palomar College, where he earned Junior College All-American honors before transferring to the University of Southern California (USC). At USC, he played under Paul Hackett and Pete Carroll, earning All-Pac-10 honors, starting 17 games, and recording four interceptions. He graduated from USC in 2002.
Cash enjoyed a five-year NFL playing career (2002–2006) after being selected in the sixth round of the 2002 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. He started 12 games as a rookie, recording 100 tackles and one interception, and later played for the Atlanta Falcons. He later coached in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks (2015–2016), finishing as Assistant Secondary Coach (Cornerbacks).
Christopher Cash holds a Bachelor of Science degree from USC. He is the father of two sons, Caleb Cash and Darius Cash.
