Sam Madison returned home in January 2026, joining the Florida A&M football staff as cornerbacks coach — a full-circle moment for one of the most decorated defensive backs in NFL history.
Madison’s connection to FAMU runs deep. A Tallahassee native, he attended FAMU Developmental Research School before going on to star at the University of Louisville from 1992-1996, earning First-team All-American honors in his senior season.
The Miami Dolphins selected him in the second round of the 1997 NFL Draft with the 44th overall pick.
Over a 12-year playing career, Madison established himself as one of the premier cornerbacks of his era. He spent nine seasons with the Dolphins (1997-2005), earning four consecutive Pro Bowl selections (1999-2002), two First-team All-Pro honors (1999, 2000), and two Second-team All-Pro nods (1998, 2001). He co-led the NFL in interceptions in 1999 and was inducted into the Dolphins Walk of Fame in 2014. He concluded his playing career with the New York Giants (2006-2008), winning Super Bowl XLII.
Madison transitioned to coaching with the Kansas City Chiefs (2019-2021) as secondary and cornerbacks coach, earning a Super Bowl LIV championship ring. He then returned to Miami as the Dolphins’ cornerbacks coach and pass game specialist from 2022-2023, closing out his NFL coaching tenure where his professional career began.
Now back in Tallahassee, Madison brings two Super Bowl rings — one as a player, one as a coach — 38 career interceptions, and more than two decades of elite defensive back experience to the Rattler secondary.
