Jose Hernandez

Jose Hernandez joined the Florida A&M track and field program as an assistant coach for the throws event group in the 2023 season as a USATF Level I coach.

Before coaching at the collegiate level, Coach Hernandez was a key member of Chicago, Illinois' University High and Middle School track and field teams from 2019-2022. He coached the jumps and throws event groups at the high school level while being an administrative assistant for the athletic director. Throughout his time at their institution, he guided a state qualifier in the discus throw in 2022. During this same period, Coach Hernandez was a counselor for the Ironwood Throws Camp in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. He helped instruct multiple high school and collegiate athletes in all the throwing disciplines.

In addition to his coaching time, Coach Hernandez was a collegiate athlete in the hammer throw for the University of Chicago (2018-2022). He is currently sitting second all-time in their honor roll for the event. He also competed at the Puerto Rican National Championships in 2021, placing fifth in the same event.

Outside of his work in athletics, Hernandez graduated from the University of Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Master of Arts in Digital Studies of Language, Culture, and History in 2022.
