The Rattler Summer Institute ,also known as RSI, is a summer academic program for designated new freshmen and transfer athletes focusing on transitional academic success factors during the Summer B term at Florida A&M University. This institute sits on the Department of Athletics foundation of Building Champions in the Classroom, on the Field and in Life. This (6) week program will assist student athletes in sharpening their study skills and preparation for academic success.
Student Athletes will enroll in two academic courses and schedule ten (10) hours a week of academic skills training with the academic support staff. Student-Athletes participating in this program will gain the benefits of completing academic course work prior to start of the fall term to jump start progress towards degree hours, to aid in meeting NCAA academic course work prior to start of the fall term, to jump start progress towards degree hours and to aid in meeting NCAA academic requirements.
Both freshmen and transfer athletes will gain awareness of campus and embody the Reach…Rattler…Rise mantra providing a focus on reaching their full academic potential, becoming a part of the Rattler Family and Rising to success. Welcome to Rattler Nation!
Week 1 (June 19-23rd): FAMU New Student Orientation
Week 2 (June 26th-June 30th): Dating & Sexual Responsibility/Planning Academic Success/Time Management
Week 3 (July 3rd- July 7th): Sport Identity & Leadership
Week 4 (July 10th-July 14th): Building Your Foundation for Academic Success (Study Skills & Habits, Learning Styles Note Taking)
Week 5 (July 17th – July 21st): Knowing NCAA Academic Eligibility & APR (Learn what is required for Academic Eligibility)
Week 6 (July 24th-July 28th): Rattler Wrap Up! (Jeopardy Capstone Project)
