High School: Haughton lettered in and track and field at Boyd H. Anderson High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. In 2009 and 2010, Haughton was named field event athlete of the year at Boyd H. Anderson High School. She was also named BCAA Discus athlete of the year and Miami Herald and Sun Sentinel all- county discus in 2009 and 2010. She competed at a regional and state level, placing first in the regional competition. Haughton graduated in the top 5% of her class, and maintained honor roll. She was named Boyd Anderson's Female Athlete of the Year and she was the FSHAA 2010 Discus Runner-Up in the State Competition.

Personal: Shamona Haughton was born on October 17, 1991 to Totlyn Watt and Mark Haughton in Trelawny, Jamacia. She has two siblings, Markia and Ariana Haughton.  Haughton is currently pursuing a degree in political science and in her free time she enjoys sleeping and listening to music. She is also known by her nickname Shamomo.
