Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Marks New Era for FAMU Golf

10/3/2025 2:01:00 PM

Under sunny skies and a spirit of celebration, Florida A&M University unveiled the newly installed canopies at its on-campus golf driving range. The ribbon cutting, attended by students, alumni, faculty, and administrators, spotlighted the growing momentum behind the university's Championship Golf Team.

The canopies, designed to enhance training conditions year-round, were made possible through grassroots fundraising led by the Rattlers-in-Arms and the Plant City Chapter initiative. Over $76,000 was raised in a matter of months, reflecting the pride and commitment of the FAMUly.

Rick Kinsey of the Rattlers-in-Arms shared, "It was a labor of love, and we thank all donors for their unwavering support. Without the over 90 supporters, this would not have happened."

"These canopies show what we can achieve together," said Plant City Chapter President Dr. Maurice Pickett. "This is a great moment for our student-athletes and the entire FAMU community."

Coach Mike Rice expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support, noting how the enhancements will help develop elite student-athletes while attracting new talent. The golf team, already making waves in collegiate golf, now has another competitive edge.

"We're incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support," said added Rice. "These enhancements will not only help us continue developing elite student-athletes but also inspire the next generation of talent to join a program that's truly on the rise."
